Safety Professional at RGT Garners Award

    Nov 22, 2011

The Indiana Motor Truck Association recently awarded RG Transport’s Jim Fairfield the 2003 Steve Defibaugh Safety Professional of the Year Award. The award was presented to Jim during Indiana Motor Truck Association’s Spring Conference.

Steve Defibaugh was a respected Loss Prevention Manager for Marvin Johnson and Associates, a well-known Indiana owned trucking insurance company. Steve, unfortunately, passed away at age 47 after a bout with cancer. The Indiana Motor Truck Association board members voted to rename the award in Steve’s honor. Steve’s family attended the conference and presented the award to Jim.

The safety professional of the year award is presented to a company nominated member of Indiana’s Safety Management Council. The award’s winner is chosen based upon professional achievements, success in advancing highway safety in cooperation with government officials, positive track record of safety accomplishments within their respective company, and active participation in state trucking and other professional organizations.

Jim is the Safety and Recruiting Manager for RG Transport and has been an active member of the statewide trucking association for six years. He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Safety Management Council within the organization. Jim was also the 2004 Chairman of the Indiana Truck Driving Championships held in June in Indianapolis.

Since joining RG Transport in 1997, Jim has been instrumental in reducing the company’s accident rate as well as improving the compliance of DOT mandated trucking regulations. His efforts toward safety, and the recruiting of quality drivers, have positively promoted RG Transport’s reputation for being one of the safest fleets in the state of Indiana.

    Congratulations Jim!
