    What's New

For It Is In Giving That We Receive

    Nov 23, 2011

Heavy-weight boxing champion of the world, Muhammad Ali, once said “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”  Service to others is alive and well at Red Gold.  Everyday, our employees are demonstrating what can be accomplished when everyone comes together and services the needy.  But, are you involved?  If not, here are a few examples of current charitable programs that you can support:

The RG-Distribution Center and RG-Orestes employees are collecting pop tops from aluminum soda cans and donating them to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.  The pop tops are taken to recycling centers and the monies generated go directly to the charity.  Ronald McDonald House provides a “home away from home” for seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.  With the first house opening in 1974, there are now more than 245 Ronald McDonald Houses in 26 countries.  More than 6,000 bedrooms worldwide are now available for families every night.  So, hang on to every pop top and send them to these human resources departments.

Joining the likes of Governor Mitch Daniels, the Indianapolis Colts and radio icons “Bob and Tom”, the employees at RG Transport have a goal to become the newest sponsor for Riley Hospital for Children’s “Miracle Ride”.  Sponsorship of this wonderful charity requires selling 500 “Riley” hat/shirt pins for $3 each or Miracle Ride Poker Run cards for $1 each.  More than 45,000 motorcyclists will participate in the 14th Annual Miracle Ride in June 2007.  RGT’s employees hope to see the company’s name proudly displayed on each bikers t-shirt.  Employees from all facilities are invited to purchase pins and Poker Run cards from the accounting department at RG Transport until October 7, 2006.  The employee with the best five card poker hand will win 50% of the monies collect.  The remaining 50% will be donated to Riley Children’s Foundation, Miracle Ride.

Stop by the RG-Elwood break room and the employees guarantee you’ll see stars!  The generous folks in ketchup-land have teamed up with the American Cancer Society to raise money for cancer research and support programs.  Employees from all facilities are invited to “Buy a Star to be a Star”.  For $1, you can purchase and add a name to a color coded star.  The five colors of stars represents cancer survivors, family members or friends currently battling cancer (including yourself), remembering those lost to cancer or just to show your support for the charity.  Founded in 1913, The American Cancer Society is a nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.  Be a Star and add a little twinkler to the Elwood break room.

How can combining Nascar with Levi’s support local charities?  At RG-Corporate, the employees paid $5.00 to wear their favorite Nascar shirt and their most comfortable jeans to work.  The office promotion was held prior to the 2006 Allstate Brickyard 400 Race.  All proceeds were donated to the Alexandria Public Library for the start up of their “Literacy Program”.  What a great way to support a much needed local charity program and let your fellow office associates know you are fond of Little E (Dale Earnhardt, Jr.) or Jimmie Johnson.

We’re very proud and applaud the charitable efforts of all our employees in all facilities.  If you have been an active participant, we thank you (and the recipients of the charity thank you).  If you have not yet gotten involved, here are some great charity programs in which to participate.  You’re encouraged to get involved.  It not only helps others in need, you’ll be surprised how good it feels knowing you have helped others.
